India Buddhist Sites Tour

From Siddharth to Sakyamuni, from Buddha to Tathagata, a prince in search of salvation travelled through the many kingdoms, their capitals and janapadas. In modern times, these regions have become repositories of Buddhism and are known as Buddhist heritage sites.

India Buddhist sites tour is an attempt to cover the heritage trail that once accommodated Lord Buddha, absorbed his visionary discourses and witnessed many miracles 2,500 years ago. From Bodhgaya, the tour moves to Rajgir, the site of discourses by Buddha; Sarnath, the site of first sermon; Kushinagar, the site of his Mahaparinirvana; Lumbini, the site of his birth and Sravasti, the site where he spent many monsoon retreats at Jetavana monastic shelter.
Day 01 : Arrive Gaya (L/D)

Arrive Gaya, one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage centres and a gateway city to Bodhgaya tour, the epicenter of Buddhism. Here only Gautama attained enlightenment and became Lord Buddha, awakened and enlightened under the sacred "Bodhi tree". Visit Mahabodhi Temple built by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka in 3rd Century BC. Within the temple complex, pilgrims or tourists can also visit the Sacred Bodhi Tree, Animesh Lochana Chaitya, Chankramana, Muchalinda Lake as the city's Buddhist attractions. Visit Sujata temple, dedicated to a tribeswoman who offered a bowl of rice milk to starving Sakyamuni. Overnight stay at the Hotel.
Day 02 : Bodhgaya-Rajgir-Bodhgaya (B/L/D)

Begin day 2 with an excursion to Rajgir, the 6th century capital of Magadha Empire. Buddha spent many years here. Visit Gridhakuta, Sapataparni caves, Ajatsatru Fort and Venuvana Vihara. Also visit Nalanda, the world's oldest university founded in the 5th century, now in ruins. Overnight stay in Bodhgaya.
Day 03 : Bodhgaya-Varanasi (B/L/D)

Early morning after breakfast, proceed for Varanasi, the oldest continuing city and gateway to Sarnath, the site of Buddha's first sermon. Afternoon excursion to Sarnath, the principle centre of Buddhism. Visit Chaukhandi Stupa, Dhamekh Stupa and Mulagandhakuti Vihara. Overnight stay in Varanasi.
Day 04 : Varanasi-Kushinagar (B/L/D)

Early morning begin boat ride on river Ganges to see the beautiful sunrise and bustling rituals alongside the mesmerizing Ghats. Drive to Kushinagar, afternoon sightseeing of Kushinagar Tour, via visiting Ramabhar Stupa which stands on the spot where the body of the Lord was cremated. Also visit Mahaparinirvana Temple, where Lord Buddha in reclining posture is worshipped. Overnight in Kushinagar.
Day 05 : Kushinagar-Lumbini-Sravasti (B/L/D)

After Breakfast, proceed for Sravasti. On the way, visit Lumbini the place where Buddha was born. An ancient shrine with an image representing the nativity of Lumbini is still preserved. Continue your drive to Sravasti. On arrival, check into hotel for overnight.
Day 06 : Sravasti-Lucknow (B/L/D)

Morning visit Sravasti (Sahet-Mahet), capital of the ancient Kingdom of Kosala, which was and still is an active centre for Buddhism. Jetvana Vihar in its heydays had the honour for sheltering Buddha for 24 rainy seasons in and has the famous Anand Bodhi tree, age-old stupas, majestic monasteries and several temples. After Sravasti's sightseeing, proceed to Lucknow. Overnight stay in Lucknow.
Day 07 : Lucknow-Sankasia-Agra (B/L/D)

Early morning leave Lucknow, for Agra, enroute visit Sankasia. It was here only that Lord descended from heaven after giving sermon to his mother after 7 years of her death. Continue drive to Agra. Overnight stay in Agra.

Day 08 : Agra-Delhi Depart (B/L/D)

Morning visit Taj Mahal, the architectural modern day wonder of the world; this monument is a fine example of the fusion of many architectural styles is one of the wonders of the modern world. Afternoon drive to Delhi, transfer to Airport to Connect Flight for onward destination after a short drive past sight seeing of Delhi visit India Buddhist Sites Tour.
